Welcome to another week Class 5 – I hope you had a great weekend and managed to get outside for some of it. I hope we can continue this week like we finished last week, there certainly was some excellent work going on.

With a new week brings our new topic “Buried Treasure” which focuses on Anglo Saxons and Vikings. This half term we will be learning about Anglo Saxons and after half term we will move onto Vikings. I have lots of ideas planned and will try and make them as home/school friendly as is possible.

Remember if the work has answers with it please self assess and upload the marked work via Seesaw. So today’s work is as follows.

English: We are going to start a narrative unit looking at the classic Charles Dickens novel “Oliver Twist”. In this lesson, we will learn about the historical context of the story of Oliver Twist. In addition, we will look closely at the author, setting and character Again pause the video and complete any task that are asked of you to the best of your ability, uploading your work to Seesaw.

By the end of the lesson you should have a mind map about everything you learnt about Oliver Twist. I look forward to seeing all of your work.

Maths: We are going to be looking at decimal numbers this week and understanding place value within that. Like Friday, I would like you to watch the video and complete the worksheet. Remember to pause the video so you can complete the task that is asked of you. The worksheet is below and also on Seesaw. You can either download it from the blog or write on top of it on seesaw uploading as you like.

If we’d have been in school we would have been doing a mixture of these three lessons combined this afternoon finding out about who the Anglo Saxons were and where they came from.

First of all you will need to go onto Seesaw and read the PDF presentation dated “Monday 11th January – Anglo Saxon theme work”.

From there you will have three tasks:

Task 1 (ICT): Create an information page on the who the Anglo Saxons were and where they came from. Please experiment with a variety of fonts and styles while also making sure the page is easily read. You may need to do extra research from the internet about who they were and their lifestyle when they arrived.

The next two tasks are explained in the PDF presentation on Seesaw. The map and passport templates are below. Please make sure work is detailed and is uploaded to Sesaw.

Task 2: On your map of Europe using an atlas colour in the areas of Europe on the blank map where the Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Scots and Vikings came from. Colour each tribe in a different colour. Label the map with both the names of the tribes and the modern place names. Can you add arrows showing which part of Britain they each invaded?

Task 3: Create an information passport for the Anglo-Saxon Warrior. Use your imagination from what you have learnt and you must include: • Name •Where they were born •How they travelled •What was their job title? •A picture of an Anglo-Saxon •A small description of why they •came to England. Also underneath the main title “Invaders and Settlers” in the text box draw a self portrait of you as an Anglo Saxn Warrior and under the sub heading title “Where did you come from?” draw a map which explains this.

I know there is a lot of work on today but don’t panic there will be time to complete and finish off throughout the week.

Have a good day – Mr B
