Good morning Class 5 and I hope you are ready for a different end to the week this week. On Friday , VE Day represents the 75 years since the end of World War 2 in Europe, one of the most important dates in our history.
As a school and a class I am going to post some activities below that I would like us to try and have a go at. Some I would definitely like completing as I would love to make these into a display at school.
Others you can choose if you would like to do them. I have tried to make them as fun as possible and I’m hoping we have a wide and varied response to the activities so we can make a fantastic display back at school.

ENGLISH (please complete)

Just like 75 years ago, we are making History right now and maybe in the future Lockdown 2020 and the Coronavirus will be studied in school. I would like us to write a poem Of Lockdown 2020. Think carefully about how you feel? What have you been doing? What has life been like? Please take some time over the poem.
I am hoping to create a display of the poems in school to document this time. We could alongside KS2 bury some to be dug up in future years!!
I am really looking forward to reading these.

Please choose from the following options…

English – write a fact-file about Winston Churchill and why he was so important? What was his job? Why was he so important during WW2? What was one of his famous phrases? Can you describe his characteristics?

Morse Code –

Can you write write a secret coded message for your family and classmates to crack? I can post your messages onto the blog!

ENGLISH

Geography – (2 tasks)

On a blank map, can you find out which countries were involved in WW2? Can you colour code which countries were allies and axis?
Can you research and create an information page about that country. You might include what role they had in WW2, their way of life, favourite foods, culture etc.

SCIENCE

Can you create you own parachute? Can you experiment with different sized parachutes to see what happens to the the speed of the fall? I look forward to seeing what you use as a parachute! Will you use Lego men as soldiers?

ART

Can you design a VE medal? Lots of templates and medal ideas are on the internet if you get stuck for ideas. These would look brilliant alongside the poems on the display boards at school.

AND FINALLY….Be ready for Friday – ‘Stay At Home’ Street Party.

How did people celebrate in 1945? Plan your own ‘stay at home’ street party. Can you prepare for the party – what decorations can you make? Can you make some union jack bunting or a flag? Maybe you could make a Union Jack out of Lego!
Below are fabulous craft, DT and art ideas that will transform your street party. You might just want to have a go at them for fun!
